In the 1960's (!) all I ever wanted to do was to be a photographer:  instead I became an Engineer. Engineering led me to Marketing, and, then to Health Software Management. Management gave me opportunities to travel and with the travel I soon felt the need to "record my journey" and the realization that creating images that can make people think or feel, is far more rewarding than corporate bullshit: Photography became my happy place...

I always scout a scene first without shooting or with a phone to give me ideas - I have found that developing an idea or a prospective name for a shot in my imagination first inspires me to shoot that scene creatively in a way that my chosen name evokes.
This web site is simply a way for you to see what I see, feel the raw wildness of New Zealand's Southern  Alps, the almost impossible grandeur and scale of the Grand Canyon, feel the history of famous places, or for example the tangibly spiritual feeling of being at Maori Bay - a place of deep significance in Maori culture.  I deliberately give many photos  blunt or prosaic names, such as "basalt"  -it illustrates its bleak contrast with the surroundings. Sometimes I attempt to evoke the whole experience - such as "Riversong" - the ever changing sound of flowing water over rocks....
